Scan

Open the Scan tab and hold the card flat in the frame. Recognition runs on the device, so a card is identified even with no signal — prices refresh as soon as you're back online. Hold steady for a beat once the frame locks; that pause is the app taking its read.

Even, indirect light is worth more than bright light. Angle away from overhead spots and phone flash, since the glare across foil and slab cases is what usually breaks a match. Fill the frame with the card, keep it square to the camera, and give it a second to settle rather than sweeping the phone.

Yes. Slabs, toploaders and penny sleeves all scan, and the app coaches you away from glare when a case is throwing it. Graded cards also pull population counts and comps by grade.

Switch to batch mode and scan card after card without stopping to confirm each one — matches collect in a list you review at the end, where you can fix a misread, set condition, and send the whole batch to your Vault at once.

Tap the result and pick the right printing from the alternates — reprints of the same art across sets are the common case. Corrections teach the matcher, so it's worth the tap.

Two places. A compressed copy is saved on your device as a keepsake in your Card Dex, and you can delete any of them from the Dex. The cropped card image is also sent to our servers to identify it, and by default we keep the crops that teach the scanner something — the ones it couldn't identify confidently, plus a small sample of the ones it got right. The crop is the card face alone, never your room, hands or surroundings. It's stored privately, deleted automatically after 90 days, and you can turn the keeping off entirely under Settings → Data & privacy → Help improve scanning, which also deletes the crops we already hold.

Home

It's the current market value of everything in your Vault, using the same daily prices you see on a card page, multiplied by the quantity you own. The chart below it is that total over time.

They come from completed public sales, refreshed nightly, and pass through smoothing and plausibility filters so one silly listing can't move a card. They're market estimates for a volatile hobby, not appraisals — treat them as the going rate, not a guarantee.

Prices refresh on a nightly cycle, and a card with no recent completed sales carries its last figure forward rather than inventing a new one. Thinly traded cards can hold the same number for several days.

Tap the watch control on any card page. Watched cards sit in their own list on Home and are tracked for price movement, but they don't count toward your portfolio total.

Discover

From what you scan, watch and open — the cards, sets and eras you actually spend time on. The signals behind it stay on your device, and you can turn personalization off in Settings; Discover then falls back to general market movement.

It's generated from that card's own sales history, its graded population where we have it, and public market context — then written up in plain language. It's commentary, not investment advice.

Ask

Anything about cards, sets, prices and your own collection — what a card sold for, how a set has moved, what's in your Vault from a given era. Answers are drawn from our card and price data rather than the open web.

Yes. It's an AI assistant working over market data, and both the model and the data can be off — especially on very recent sales or obscure printings. Check the card page for the underlying figures before acting on anything that matters.

No. Nothing in the app is financial or investment advice, and we're not licensed advisors. Collectibles are volatile and can lose value.

Vault

Scan them, or search a card and add it from its page. Either way you can set quantity, condition and what you paid.

Add it twice. The Vault tracks each purchase as its own lot with its own cost and date, so your gain reads correctly instead of averaging away what you actually paid.

Pull to refresh, and give it a moment on a slow connection — the collection syncs down from your account after sign-in. If it's still empty after a minute, force-quit and reopen the app, then email us if anything is missing so we can check the account directly.

Pro sellers get marketplace-ready upload files for eBay and TCGplayer from batch scanning. A general collection export is on the way — email us in the meantime and we'll send you your collection as a CSV.

Account & sign-in

Enter your email and we send a one-time code. There's no password to remember or lose — we never store one.

Check spam, confirm the address is spelled the way you registered it, and wait a full minute before requesting another — codes expire quickly and the newest one is the only one that works. Still nothing, and email us; we can check delivery on our side.

Yes. Sign in with the same email on each device and your collection, watchlist and Pro subscription follow you.

In the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. That permanently removes your account and its server-side data — collection, watchlist, scan history and profile — and it can't be undone. If you can't reach the app, email support@cardboardcapital.net from your account's address and we'll do it for you.

Pro & billing

The graded market — PSA sales and population reports — market insight on every card rather than the top few hundred, and the seller tools: bulk scanning, rule-based pricing and marketplace export files. Scanning and portfolio tracking stay unlimited on the free tier.

Subscriptions are billed by Apple, so cancelling happens on the device: iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Cardboard Capital → Cancel. You keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for.

Tap Restore purchases in Settings, and make sure you're signed in to the App Store with the Apple Account that bought the subscription. If it still doesn't take, email us with the date of purchase and we'll sort it out.

Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple, not by us — request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. Email us too if something in the app caused it; we'd like to know either way.

Privacy & data

Your email, your handle, your collection and watchlist, and — unless you turn it off — cropped scan images kept to improve recognition and deleted after 90 days. Location stays on your device and is never uploaded. We don't sell personal information and we don't use it for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking. Full detail is in the privacy policy.

Only so your Card Dex can note where a card was found. It's optional, captured at scan time, stored on your device, and you can decline or revoke it any time in iOS Settings without losing anything else.

Email support@cardboardcapital.net from your account's address and we'll send what we hold for you.
